Hi I’m Josh, Welcome to My Wellness Resource.
I thought I would share a little about myself and why MyWellnessResource is what it is
I sure know Unhealthy
As at the time of writing I am 25 years old. Some may think that I am a little young to be offering advice on health and wellness related issues. However, as someone who has worked in the liquor industry since he was 14 years old (don’t worry, I was only filling beer chillers and cleaning the local wholesalers car park when I was 14, not serving alcohol), and was given the keys to manage his very own liquor store at the age of 21, I think it’s fair to say that I do know a whole lot about how to be unhealthy.
While I agree that at the age of 21, I was a little more responsible than the majority of my peers, hence the reason I was offered a mangers role in a liquor store at that age, I also admit that I loved to take advantage of the staff discounts on bottles of bourbon… It was fair to say that I wholeheartedly took advantage of the cheap liquor, and consumed more than my fair share.
Now you would be right in thinking that every other 21 year old at the time would have killed to be managing their own liquor store, but I had already been in the industry for 7 years and to be honest by the time I turned 21, the novelty was well worn off. As a matter of fact, I was kind of over alcohol all together, and was really keen try and start living a healthier lifestyle.
What a joke that was.
On my first day as the new manager I realized that it would be an uphill battle. Literally through the other side of my office wall was an on premise tavern that already had a special handle on the hook with my name on it, within a 50 meter radius there was a Red Rooster ( a fried chicken joint), a Chinese takeaways, a bakery, a fruit and vege shop that sold these amazing chocolate chip cookies (I guess the fruit and vegetables were ok, I never tried them) and a large discount store that sold ice-creams. On top of that, we had the staff beer fridge which was always full with the days “breakages” and “damaged” products in there.
To top it all off, I was the manager, so I basically sat on my a** behind my deck for nearly 3 years and ate rubbish food and drunk too much booze. I even had the staff trained so well, that come 3.30pm they would “instinctively” bring me a cold beer. Pretty good delegation if you ask me.
So long story short, my plans to start eating a healthier diet and cut back on the booze was well out the window.
Time for a change – My new found Passion
I resigned at the beginning of 2009 and walked out the door much rounder than when I first walked in; man boobs, love handles, heart problems, the worst acne I have ever had, smelly pits, bad breathe… well you get the picture. I also developed a horrible stomach problem mid way through 2009 which I am 100% sure was attributed to my previous unhealthy lifestyle.
I had left my previous job with a number of very large goals and dreams. I had developed an entrepreneurial spirit that was build around a drive and passion to do things for myself and my family, and a new found understanding that life did not have to revolved around the idea that we must spend 50 years of our life slaving away for someone else, in a job that we absolutely despised.
Throughout the majority of 2009, I did my best to turn my dreams into reality, but no matter how hard I seemed to try, I just couldn’t muster up the energy and motivation to get things rolling. Then one day towards the end of 2009, I was reading an ebook called “What I didn’t learn at school, but wish I had” by a man called Jamie McIntyre. He is a wealth educator, investor, self help kind of dude who really knows his stuff. Anyway I read a section in this book about attaining your financial goals through raising your energy levels. It talked of several aspects of you life that can dramatically drain your energy, and no prises for guessing what the main causes were… bad diet, no exercise, alcohol, general poor health, all of which hadn’t changed since leaving the managers job at the liquor store.
Now this is what I was looking for, a way to link my entrepreneurial and financial goals to my health and well being goals.
I was hooked. After only a few weeks of eating a healthier diet, exercising regularly, dropping the booze, and generally living a healthier lifestyle, I noticed a dramatic lift in my energy levels, and in turn noticed a huge lift in motivation to get off my a** and take action on my business goals. It is at this stage ladies and gentlemen that I developed a real passion for health and wellness.
So that brings us to MyWellnessResource – Why am I here
It is my goal to increase my overall health and wellbeing, so that I can continue to raise my energy levels and be as productive as possible in my many business ventures.
